The Clinical Laboratory Scientist III (CLS III) functions with minimal direction from supervisory personnel. Responsibili­ties include performing routine and technically complex laboratory tests and analyses requiring advanced cogni­tive, manipulative and problem-solving skills in the Point of Care Testing. The CLS III’s activities include operating and maintaining test equipment, monitoring, and evaluating the quality of testing, verifying, and reporting test results, and resolving technical and quality control problems. Additional duties include general and administrative support functions necessary for the routine operation of the laboratory. Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to the developmental issues of the patient populations(s) being served.


Position Requirements:

  • Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or limited license appropriate for the area of responsibility.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in a biological science, chemistry, medical technology, or related science.
  • ASCP or AAB Board of Registry certification or equivalent, preferred.
  • Five years of relevant clinical experience with at least 1 year in Point of Care Testing. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with peers, patients, physicians, and other customers.
  • Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Frequent sitting and standing; occasional walking and bending; occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds for distances to 10 feet.
  • Frequent use of computer keyboards monitors and telephones.
  • Responsiveness to auditory alarms and communication devices including telephones, beepers, fire alarms, mechanical failure alarms.
  • Near visual acuity including color differentiation.
  • Sufficient mobility to access equipment, patients, and other customers.
