Job Overview

The Hoxworth Blood Center, Division of Transplantation Immunology, seeks a motivated individual to conduct clinical laboratory testing. The ideal candidate for this full-time (100% FTE) Clinical Lab Scientist 1 position, will have a background in immunology, be a critical thinker with excellent communication skills, and an ability to work independently. Work experience in flow cytometry and molecular DNA testing is ideal. This position will be assigned 2nd shift once training is complete.
 
SIGN ON BONUS: up to $5,000
STARTING PAY RANGE: $27-29 hourly 
SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL: $4 hourly
FLEXIBLE START TIMES, 10-HOUR SHIFTS AVAILABLE


Essential Functions
  • Perform testing, interpret and record results.
  • Perform quality control and proficiency testing.
  • Comply with cGMP requirements (in appropriate areas) regarding test interpretation and validity of results. 
  • Communicate and report test results to external customers, as well as internal.  
  • Respond to other healthcare professionals’ questions regarding results.
  • Clerically process incoming patient blood samples. Compose written case reports for hospital patient referrals, when appropriate. 
  • Prepare laboratory reagents. Develop and perform reagent evaluation studies and other special projects with supervisory review.
  • Quarantine and discard blood products with positive test results, when appropriate. 
  • Maintain equipment and clean, safe work area.
  • Assume on-call responsibilities, as required.

Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or other related biological science.
  • Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Trainings/Certifications

Some labs require MLT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), BB(ASCP), or SBB(ASCP).
