Position Description

The Department of Psychology invites applications for a Clinical Instructor position to join the vibrant and expanding clinical training team. The Department defines health along a broad continuum of mental and physical well-being that extends beyond the simple absence of pathology or disease, with a particular focus on understanding the role of environmental influences on psychological well-being. Further, we consider the integration of cultural factors into applied practice and research to be critical to the future of our nation’s health.
Qualifications include the following:
1. Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical, School, or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program by the start date of employment.
2. Licensed or license-eligible within 18 months in the state of South Carolina (supervision will be provided for a hired individual seeking licensure in South Carolina).
3. Expertise in evidence-based intervention.
4. At least 4 months (one semester) of part-time experience as an instructor of record for undergraduate psychology classes.
This position is a 9-month, full-time professional track faculty appointment with full access to benefits and a start date of January 1, 2024, renewable based on Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding. Responsibilities include teaching 3 courses per semester with a focus on core and applied courses (e.g., clinical practical). Teaching in the undergraduate program will focus on didactic or experiential learning to advance understanding and supporting psychological health of persons across the lifespan. The successful candidate will join the Department’s team of clinical supervisors and play a key role in the clinical training of doctoral students, which role includes coordination and supervision for students participating in externships (e.g., at schools, hospitals, and community mental health clinics), attending meetings, and contributing to related initiatives in the Department’s training clinic (i.e., the Psychology Services Center located near campus at 1331 Elmwood Avenue, Suite 140, Columbia, SC 29201).
