The USC Keck School of Medicine, Division of Nephrology is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant to join its team in managing patients at both Keck Medical Center of USC and Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. The successful candidate will assist the inpatient nephrology teams (attending, fellows and residents, medical students) in the initial evaluation, patient education, ongoing management, charting and discharge planning of patients on acute or chronic dialysis. The candidate will also work closely with interventional radiology and vascular surgery to assist in coordination of care for chronic dialysis access needs. The successful applicant will have a clinical instructor faculty appointment in the Department of Medicine at USC.

Specific Job Description

  • Compose notes (consultation or progress), dialysis orders and communicate with primary teams about patients seen
  • Educate patients new to dialysis about renal replacement therapy options
  • Assisting primary teams in placement of patients at either DaVita-USC or other dialysis clinics
  • Assisting primary teams for arrangement of elective outpatient tunneled dialysis catheter and PD catheter placements
  • Assist primary and nephrology teams in coordinating permanent access placement (obtain follow-up with interventional radiology, vascular surgery and communicate with patients about appointments)
  • Assist fellows in kidney biopsies; when adequately trained, perform kidney biopsies with attending when fellow is not available
  • Assist fellows in temporary dialysis catheter placement; when adequately trained, perform dialysis catheter placement with attending when fellow is not available
  • Obtain and maintain credentialing at LAC+USC Medical Center and Keck Medical Center
