Position Description

The University of Washington Department of Family Medicine seeks a Full-Time (up to 1.0 FTE) Palliative Care Clinician with their primary board in Family Medicine. The applicant will be appointed as Clinical Instructor, Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor - Salaried. This position will be entirely clinical with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024, or soon thereafter.

Clinical Instructors, Clinical Assistant Professors, Clinical Associate Professors, and Clinical Professors - Salaried hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1 - June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July - June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The base salary range for this position will be: $15,000 - $26,667 per month ($180,000 - $320,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentives through the UW Physicians practice plan.

Position Description

This position expects that the faculty hired will participate in departmental activities for the Department of Family Medicine, while their clinical work will be focused on palliative care. They are expected to participate in the teaching mission of the Department, especially as it relates to their clinical work and expertise. The FTE represents clinical scheduled time and administrative/teaching time. This position is funded by clinical revenue.

Their clinical work will include providing inpatient palliative care consultation for the UW Medicine Palliative Care Service, which potentially includes activities at 3 hospital sites (University Washington Medical Center - Montlake and Northwest hospitals and Harborview Medical Center).

Clinical duties will include palliative care consultation to medical teams, patients and families, nursing and social services, and spiritual care staff. The candidate chosen will be responsible for providing palliative care independently and collaboratively with appropriate privileges, including initial and ongoing assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patient's medical, physical and psychosocial status. The successful candidate is also expected to teach, mentor and advise residents, fellows and medical students.

Other duties expected of a successful candidate includes teaching and services aligned with the academic mission of University of Washington, commensurate with rank. Additionally, they will be expected to work on academic research and projects mutually agreed upon with the director of the palliative care service in non-clinical work hours.

Qualifications

Applicants are required to have an MD, DO, or foreign equivalent with current certification by the American Board of Family Medicine.

- Washington State Medical License (DEA and NPI)

- Board certified (or board eligible) in Hospice and Palliative Medicine

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
