Position Summary | The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine is seeking a licensed clinician to serve in a leadership role in the Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Program, which is located organizationally within the Comprehensive Cancer Support Program. The AYA program is a well-established inter-professional program provides developmentally- appropriate psychosocial and medical care for AYA cancer patients and their support communities, advances research in the field of AYA oncology, educates providers about the unique needs of young people living with cancer, and improves care for AYAs. The program aims to deliver high-quality cancer care for AYA patients throughout the care continuum and across the state of North Carolina. Members of the UNC AYA program provide direct clinical care, conduct clinical and translational research, educate health care providers and patients, and engage in local and national AYA advocacy efforts. This is a 100% FTE, fixed-term Clinical Instructor position. The AYA lead clinician will fulfill a critical role in the care of teenagers and young adults treated for cancer at the University of North Carolina. The AYA lead clinician will meet with patients and, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, develop a supportive care plan designed specifically for that patient. The successful candidate will develop an extensive knowledge of supportive care resources (e.g., clinical services; psychosocial support; educational programs; financial assistance) for AYA patients offered within and outside of UNC. This position will involve consultation to and collaboration with oncologists, nurses, mental health clinicians, and other cancer-related clinicians and staff members. Other clinical duties include:
In addition to clinical responsibilities, the AYA lead clinician is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the AYA Cancer Program and oversees the program’s overall growth and sustainability strategy. The AYA lead clinician supervises, mentors, and supports the AYA team members in their daily work while also focusing on growth in their individual careers. The AYA lead clinician partners with the AYA Medical and Research Directors to develop and advance an AYA-focused research portfolio. The AYA lead clinician is responsible for marketing and communications (including the development and use of the AYA website) and philanthropic, partnerships and fundraising. The AYA lead clinician participates in larger cancer center initiatives and aligns the AYA Program work with those priorities of the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. |
