Summary

The Clinical Information Analyst Senior gathers, analyzes, and interprets data to identify opportunities to improve access and quality of care in ambulatory settings. This position works with the Regional Alliance for Healthy Schools (RAHS) team and health center team to extract and manipulate clinical and operational data from a variety of databases for the purpose of measuring processes and outcomes of care, medical and disease management, assessment of clinician practice patterns and case management. The Senior Analyst will design reports and graphical representations of data to present findings in an actionable manner. The Senior Analyst will be responsible for creating detailed timelines and resource plans, define requirements, identify risks, create project documentation, report status to RAHS Director, track and escalate issues. Analysts utilize data extraction and reporting tools (SQL and Tableau) to analyze information, summarize findings, recommendations, and next steps. This position will report to the Director of RAHS.

Responsibilities*

Analytics: (40%)

  • Apply knowledge of data analytics, population health, clinical information, disease processes, measurement, and analysis to the completion of complex assignments.
  • Produce analytic results by creating and applying algorithms to data which are extracted and integrated across multiple sources.
  • Translate clinical needs into analytical solutions. 
  • Conduct analysis and reporting of clinical and operational data.
  • Evaluate performance, utilization, quality of care and patient safety measures.
  • Collaborate with physicians, administrators, senior analysts, and others to update metrics to assess and improve performance.
  • Validate data quality and reasonableness in reports.
  • Create, maintain, and execute SQL and SAS code and files to update RAHS dashboards, including The Joint Commission Reporting, Gap list, State Reporting, and Social Worker Wait List.
  • Download, manage, maintain, and report on data from the Qualtrics Patient Satisfaction Survey Dashboard; work with RAHS Leadership and clinicians to evaluate and modify survey data.
  • Support the Quality metrics dashboard including implementation and analysis of HEDIS measures, goals updates, data review and validation.
  • Support and participate in State reporting (quarterly) and RAHS Goal reporting (bi-annual), including ad hoc analytics and issue identification.

Reporting: (40%)

  • Design report formats and graphical representations of data intended for audiences ranging from senior leaders and clinicians to the general public.
  • Deliver written, graphical, and/or verbal presentations of provider, product, program, and service specific data to internal staff, clinicians, UMHS leaders, relevant committees, and other constituencies.
  • Develop and maintain supporting documentation of measurement methods and algorithms, data sources and reporting processes.

Data Support: (15%)

  • Work with database and business systems analysts to plan and implement the data management and analysis of products and programs, including definition of data requirements, data capture and storage, and analyses required to measure and evaluate performance.
  • Define and help create mechanisms to extract and reorganize data from existing systems for storage and reporting departmental databases.
  • Participate in the development of communication related to the analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of health services data.
  • Work with team members and IT staff to identify and automate tools that deliver routine performance information.
  • Maintain communication with technical groups inside Michigan Medicine.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and facilitate improvement efforts.
  • Follow all appropriate data quality and security guidelines.
  • Review reports and analyses, write findings.  Test datasets.

Other Duties as Assigned: (5%)

  • Develops detailed timelines and resource plans, define requirements, identify risks, create project documentation, report status to team and stakeholders, track and escalate issues.
  • Work with teammates in internal process improvements.
  • Support committees involved with data interpretation and process improvements.
  • Documentation of information important to the continued delivery of analytic services.

Required Qualifications*

Required for Senior Level:

  • Bachelor?s Degree (Quantitative Field) with an advanced degree (biostatistics, public health, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Informatics) preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in health care analysis.
  • Expertise in producing analytic products.
  • Proficiency in the use of analytic and reporting tools such as SQL, SAS, Excel and Tableau.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines in a fast paced and changing environment with multiple competing tasks and priorities.
  • Experience or the ability to gain proficiency in using MiChart and querying EPIC?s Clarity databases.
  • Experience with Data Warehouse and BI systems.
  • Strong customer service skills and commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good verbal, written and visual presentation skills.
  • Ability to anticipate requests and needs in advance and plan accordingly.
  • Skills to work effectively across internal functional areas in ambiguous situations.

Required for Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor?s Degree (Quantitative Field like biostatistics, public health, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Informatics)
  • A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in health care analysis.
  • Ability to develop and maintain proficiency in the use of analytic and reporting tools such as SQL, SAS Microsoft Excel, and Tableau.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines in a fast paced and changing environment with multiple competing tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to gain proficiency in MiChart (EPIC and Clarity) querying through training.
  • Experience with Data Warehouse and BI systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good verbal, written and visual presentation skills.
  • Ability to anticipate requests and needs in advance and plan accordingly.
  • Skills to work effectively across internal functional areas in ambiguous situations.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Master's Degree (Quantitative Field) with an advanced degree (biostatistics, public health, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Informatics) preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in health care analysis.
  • Expertise in producing analytic products.
  • Proficiency in the use of analytic and reporting tools such as SQL, SAS, Excel and Tableau.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines in a fast paced and changing environment with multiple competing tasks and priorities.
  • Experience in using MiChart and querying EPIC?s Clarity databases.
