The IU School of Medicine is the largest School of Medicine in the country. The Bloomington regional campus is the largest campus outside of Indianapolis, and hosts 100 medical students, 35 graduate students, over 400 baccalaureate students pursing a minor in Medical Sciences, and thousands of baccalaureate and graduate students enrolled in our medical sciences courses. Our faculty includes basic and translational science research faculty in Cell and Molecular Cancer Biology, and educational research faculty in Anatomy; teaching faculty who support the baccalaureate, graduate and medical doctorate teaching missions, and over 250 adjunct faculty in our region. We employ 16 full and hourly part time staff.

The IUSM-Bloomington enjoys close relationships not only with the other Schools on the Bloomington campus, but also with the Simon Cancer Center, the statewide Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Regenstrief Institute, and IU Health South Central Region. In the next few years, our campus will launch the first ever Graduate Medical Education programs in Bloomington in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine. These medical residencies will deepen our relationship with IU Health and the IUSM Graduate Medical Education office, and improve the medical care provided for nearly half a million patients in the South Central region of Indiana.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Manages the day-to-day operation of the internal medicine residency program.
  • Develops an in-depth knowledge of the ACGME and program requirements in internal medicine and serve as a liaison between the learners, faculty and other staff and the ACGME.
  • Provides administrative support to the program, such as managing calendars, answering phone calls, creating routine and confidential correspondence, drafting reports and presentations. and arranging meetings and conferences. 
  • Schedules rotations and didactics for residents.
  • Counsels and monitors residents on administrative issues such as scheduling; rotation requirements; work hours; evaluations of students, peers, faculty, rotation, and program; benefits, and leave. 
  • Coordinates activities related to recruitment including events, screening, interviewing, reference checks and orientation for candidates. 
  • Maintains ongoing documentation with respect to accuracy, confidentiality, and accessibility. 
  • Implements program improvement projects from initiation to execution.
  • Offers recommendations to improve program administration and/or the overall quality of the program. 
  • Participates in the planning and development of academic and clinical requirements to ensure that all accreditation standards are maintained. 
  • Participates in development and educational activities for professional development including attending the annual Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine meeting and pursuing certification through the National Board for Certification-Training Administrators of Graduate Medical Education.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.  

 

EDUCATION

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 4 years of experience in administration, office management, or program coordination

Preferred

  • Experience in a clinical or academic setting

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. $48,000 - $53,000 per year based on experience
