Summary

The Department of Pathology & Immunology at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Cytogeneticist (PhD) with outstanding diagnostic expertise to join the Genomic Medicine Division in the Department of Pathology at Texas Children's Hospital, as Director of the Cancer Cytogenetics Laboratory. The ideal candidate must have strong cytogenetics diagnostic skills and desire to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. Academic appointment will be at the level of Professor in the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine.

 

The successful candidate will be working closely with our clinicians at the Texas Children's Hospital Cancer Center and other clinicians and in close collaboration with members of the Division of Genomic Medicine and other Divisions in the Department of Pathology. Regular opportunities are available for teaching residents, fellows, medical students, and other trainees.


Job Duties

The candidate will be responsible for signing out cancer cytogenetics specimens providing clinical cancer testing expertise to oncologists and pathologists at TCH and other institutions. Duties will include reviewing and signing-out cytogenetics and molecular cytogenetics reports, including new leukemias and solid tumors, as well as tests used for monitoring and risk stratification of pediatric cancer patients. The candidate will be also responsible for interpreting and reporting cytogenetics and FISH tests (Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization) required for enrollment of cancer patients in a variety of  therapeutic trials (including Children's Oncology Group trials), and serve as the institutional responsible for COG communications and reference laboratory accreditation

 

Other responsibilities include Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance (QA/QI) and accreditation compliance efforts, such as those required by CAP (College of American Pathologists) and COG (Children's Oncology Group) reference laboratories, leading clinical validations of new tests and participation in clinical and translational research projects.


Minimum Qualifications

The candidate must have a PhD or MD/PhD degree, be board eligible or board certified in Cytogenetics and have extensive expertise in cancer cytogenetics, ideally in pediatric cancer cytogenetics. A minimum of 3 years of experience is desired.
