Berkeley College, with campuses in the New Jersey/New York metropolitan area, seeks a Clinical Coordinator.  The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the overall organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of clinical experiences and works with multiple clinical sites to coordinate clinical rotations for students enrolled in the surgical technology and surgical processing technician programs.  This position is a full-time 12-month administrative staff appointment.

The Clinical Coordinator must possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).  The applicant also must have a minimum of three years’ experience either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.  A background in higher education instruction is preferred. A Bachelor Degree is required.  To be successful, the Clinical Scheduling Coordinator must have strong communication and administrative skills.

A more detailed description of the position is as follows:

Administration

  • Plan the clinical schedule, based on anticipated and current enrollment levels
  • Provide clinical facility oversight
  • Provide orientation, training, supervision, and evaluation for clinical site preceptors
  • Provide student clinical advisement
  • Act as liaison between the clinical affiliate staff and Berkeley College
  • Assign students to appropriate clinical facilities
  • Monitor students’ case specialties
  • Evaluate clinical practicum students
  • Assist the program chair and Dean, School of Health Studies in planning for and scheduling clinical site preceptors when needed
  • Verify and maintain required clinical clearance records (CPR certification, health clearance, background check, required clinical training modules, etc.) for both clinical students and clinical site preceptors.
  • Prepare and submit required clinical clearance records to clinical sites
  • Maintain all files related to clinical rotations
  • Collaborate with agency staff to establish new clinical contracts, renew contracts, and maintain currency in all contractual agreements

Teaching 

  • Teach an assigned number of contact hours

Students 

  • Respond to student interests and needs

Professional Development 

  • Participate in meetings and activities of professional organizations
  • Participate in College-sponsored faculty development activities
  • Incorporate instructional technology into department teaching and learning activities
  • Maintain currency with discipline

Other Internal Responsibilities   

  • Ensure compliance with ARC/STSA, IAHCSMM, and OSHA rules and regulations
  • Be conversant with College policies and procedures
  • Participate in commencement activities
  • Participate in and support student activities
