Summary

The Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is seeking an academically oriented, highly skilled, and motivated Clinical Chemist to join our team. This role will be located at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center.


Job Duties
  • Position will be located at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center (BSLMC) where you will serve as the Director of Clinical Chemistry.
  • The scope of services within the Clinical Chemistry section at BSLMC includes automation chemistry, special chemistry, rapid response testing and urinalysis.
  • The Director will be involved in improving laboratory test utilization and correlating laboratory data for diagnosis and patient management.
  • The Director will regularly perform assessment and improvement of the laboratory information systems (LIS) utilized for laboratory services in Clinical Chemistry and provide periodic review of Procedure Catalog within the LIS.
  • The Director will provide consultation regarding the medical significance of clinical chemistry laboratory data to trainees and medical providers; will actively participate in all clinical activities pertaining to clinical chemistry services including but not limited to review of serum/urine protein electrophoresis, hemoglobinopathy workup, and review of critical results, abnormal results, and questionable results.
  • The Director will be responsible for oversight of the regulatory and quality control/assurance programs including proficiency testing programs set up in the Clinical Chemistry section.
  • The Director will assist in planning and direct development of new services as required or necessary at BSLMC within the scope of Clinical Chemistry section.
  • The Director will work collaboratively with administrative directors and managers to maintain a safe laboratory environment in compliance with good laboratory practice and applicable regulations.
  • The Director will, in collaboration with hospital pathology administration, advises a budget in order to satisfy the educational, research and patient care missions in Clinical Chemistry to promote fiscal responsibility with new services.
  • The Director will represent the BSLMC pathology department and participate institutional, regional, and national committees pertaining to Clinical Chemistry services within CommonSpirit Health.
  • The Director will be responsible for site-specific education activities pertaining to Clinical Chemistry for medical students, pathology residents or chemistry fellows.
  • The Director will be responsible for periodic didactic lectures given to the pathology residents pertaining to Clinical Chemistry.
  • The Director will provide coverage for other sections, including Diagnostic Immunology and Point-of-Care, in addition to the current scope of Clinical Chemistry when is required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. required
