Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Office of Clinical Operations is responsible for overseeing patient care, providing quality assurance, maintaining infection control, administering regulatory compliance and preserving fiscal stability. The Office of Clinical Operations is an integral part of the School and their primary mission is to provide the highest quality education and training to students and to provide the highest quality dental treatment available for patients.
Position Summary
The Clinical Care Coordinator is responsible for office management and supporting clinical education.
Office management and patient care:
* Facilitate interactions among patients, faculty, and learners both remotely and in person.
* Assist Patient Navigators with scheduling as necessary during times of high demand.
* Follow up with each patient in the office via MyChart or via phone as deemed necessary.
* Follow up with communications via MyChart or by phone as appropriate and in a timely manner. 
 (Within one business day)
* Manage patient’s concerns regarding care and facilitate referral, as needed.
* Follow up with specialty clinic Patient Care Coordinators on referral cases, e.g., implant case 
 progress, as needed (this is primarily the responsibility of the learner provider).
* Send compliance letters when necessary.
* Refer potential risk management cases to the Director of Patient Relations
* Guide Admissions Care Coordinator on patient assignment by providing live report of procedures 
 needed for each learner.
* Quarterly audit patient records related to dental care in the office. Audit includes treatment plan review, timeliness of care, appointment history and trends, open encounters, care team and assignment, Mychart messages/learner in-basket, and action compliance letters. 
* Meet individually with learners in the office each block.
* Attend teaching committee and progress review meetings prepared to discuss learners’ progress.
* Have weekly meetings with preceptors to review learners’ progression. These meetings may include 
 faculty identified by preceptors to be part of the meetings.
* Have biweekly meetings with the Director for Clinical Curriculum to update, review and discuss clinical 
 education matters.
* Review available non-dashboard data, e.g., number of procedures, attendance, chart audit data, 
 patient management concerns, ACMs, as necessary to identify the root cause for individual 
 challenges encountered by faculty or learners.
* Be accessible and supportive to the director for curriculum, preceptors and predoctoral directors. 
Curriculum
* Engage in practice review sessions and office meetings as a component of office management.
* Participate in the Teaching, Student Progress Review and Academic Performance Committee meetings to discuss and provide updates on learner progression and practice readiness.
Assessment
* Manage assessment data in cooperation with the preceptors and Academic Support Center.
* Periodic communication with the preceptor to review individual learner’s progress and concerns.
Communications
* Maintain communications with the Director for Clinical Curriculum on all aspects of clinical education, 
 patient care and learner issues. 
* Interact with learners regarding patient care, clinical operations, and the ACT Curriculum. 
* Interact with patients regarding their dental care and related issues.
* Provide information for faculty and staff appraisal as requested by their direct supervisors.
Organizational
* Care coordinators are members of the clinical education team and reside in the clinical education 
 suite.
* Care coordinators’ primary role is education with operational impact.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Dental Assisting/Dental Hygienist knowledge/experience highly desired. 
* Quality experience in patient care as a member of the dental care team preferably in dental education setting.
* Dental Assistant training and experience.
* Clinical experience as part of a dental care team preferably in a dental education setting.
* Adaptability: Able to pivot and adjust to changes
* Interpersonal skills: ability to foster positive interactions with learners, faculty, and staff that create a positive and humanistic learning environment where learning is ‘safe.’ 
* Empathy: able to factor in situational information that impacts learning 
* Effectively uses learning assessments to determine learner proficiency

* Excellent organizational skills
