Job Summary


The Department of Social Work and office of Counseling and Psychological Services at Florida Gulf Coast University invites applications for a full-time, continuing appointment, twelve-month Clinical Assistant Professor position beginning August 2023. Candidate’s appointment will include teaching coursework in the MSW and BSW programs along with clinical, supervisory and administrative duties in the Department of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Teach a 2/2/1 (Fall/Spring/Summer) load of core and/or elective social work courses per academic year courses in the MSW and BSW programs.
  • 50% joint appointment with Counseling and Psychological Services providing clinical counseling and therapy, supervision and training, case management and additional administrative support as appropriate in order to provide comprehensive mental health services to FGCU students.
  • Contribute to course and/or curriculum development.
  • Actively participate in service to the department, college, university, and community.
  • Serves on department, college committees as required.
  • Attends faculty and college meetings as required.
  • Participates in CAPS administrative, supervisory and training and case management meetings
  • Be available for scheduled office hours as posted.
  • Must value service to the community and university.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work degree from a CSWE-accredited social work program.
  • Two years post-licensure practice experience in clinical social work.
  • Licensed in Florida as an LCSW.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or DSW
  • Experience teaching social work practice courses at Undergraduate and Graduate level.
  • Experience in provision of direct mental health services (clinical, case management and administrative); preferably on a college or university campus
  • Experience in supervision of student interns (Florida qualified supervisor designation)
  • Experience with the development and delivery of on-line coursework.
  • Experience or commitment to the use of technology in university teaching and distance learning.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience in clinical social work practice.
  • Knowledge and experience in providing comprehensive mental health services to college students
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the NASW Code of Ethics.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to LCSW Florida State practice laws and ethics
  • Ability to collaborate both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning and academic success.
