Job Description Summary:
The University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) is seeking two full-time (12-month) faculty members to join our team in the Department of Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Science, and Athletic Training (PTRSAT). These newly created faculty positions (non-tenure track at the Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor level) will support the development of a new hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) pathway through accreditation approval and launch of the program. The successful candidate will have experience in online/hybrid instruction in a physical therapy program and excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively as part of a remote/hybrid team. One position will support teaching of orthopedic content and the other will support teaching other clinical content in the DPT curriculum. There may also be opportunities to teach in the department’s Masters of Athletic Training program.
We will be seeking approval of a new student cohort for our existing residential DPT program from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), with an Application for Approval of Substantive Change to be submitted in August 2024 to start the new cohort in Summer 2025.

Required Qualifications

Education or Licensure:

  • Earned doctoral degree in physical therapy (DPT).  
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice physical therapy in Kansas 

Work Experience:

  • Experience as a full-time core faculty member in a DPT program
  • Experience with hybrid PT education in particular.  

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Experience with accreditation, curriculum development, or administration of a hybrid PT education program.  
  • Experience in teaching immersive lab sessions in a hybrid educational model. 
  • Earned terminal doctoral degree (such as Ph.D., EdD, DSc, etc.) and/or specialist certification.  

Job Duties Outlined

  • Assist with teaching courses within the current DPT program in alignment with contemporary expertise
  • Support the development of a new hybrid DPT program following accreditation standards
  • Participate on department, school, and institution committees and faculty governance; service to professional organization as appropriate

About the Department: The Department of Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Science, and Athletic Training (PTRSAT) is one of the largest departments in the School of Health Professions located on the medical campus in urban Kansas City, KS. The PTRSAT department houses a nationally recognized Doctor of Physical Therapy program (ranked #13 nationwide, and #6 for DPT programs at public institutions), a well-established PhD in Rehabilitation Science program, and a newly developed Master of Science in Athletic Training program.
