Clinical Assistant Professor of English Education


Position Description

The English Education Program in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Purdue University seeks applications for an Assistant Professor of English Education.  This position is a 9-month academic year, clinical track position with a 3-3 teaching load.  Reappointments occur in 3-year contractual terms.  Clinical appointments are non-tenure track but with the potential for promotion in rank.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching English language arts methods courses for the English education licensure program
  • Supervising preservice teachers and maintaining relationships with field-based school partners
  • Participating in program administration, accreditation, and recruitment

 

This position requires an on-campus, face-to-face presence.


Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in English Education or closely related field
  • Demonstrated scholarship in English Education or closely related field
  • Experience teaching secondary English language arts (grades 6-12)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching undergraduate/preservice courses in English language arts methods
  • Experience supervising preservice teacher candidates
  • Experience teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students
  • Experience with edTPA and CAEP accreditation
  • At least three years’ experience teaching secondary ELA in U.S. schools

    The Literacy and Language Education Program within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction contributes to a culture of discovery, learning, and engagement in the College of Education. The program offers prospective researchers/scholars and K-12 educators the opportunity to investigate contemporary issues in literacy research and theory as well as pedagogical methods related to literacy and language teaching, learning, assessment, and curriculum. Faculty members are committed to creating and disseminating knowledge relevant to the discipline of literacy and language education; preparing scholars, educators, and leaders in literacy and language education on the local, national, and international levels; and promoting access to literacy for all learners.


    English Education Faculty

    The English Education Faculty within the L&L Program are responsible for the preparation of undergraduate English Education majors. These students are housed in the College of Education but take extensive coursework in the English Department. Inter-departmental cooperation and communication regarding the teaching and coordination of courses in both departments is thus a vital part of the undergraduate program’s success.
