The Department of Psychology (http://psychology.ecu.edu) has 30 full-time faculty members, over 800 undergraduate majors, a master’s program with several concentrations including Clinical Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and School Psychology, as well as a Specialist-level program in School Psychology. The Department also has a doctoral program in Psychology with three separate concentrations – Clinical Health Psychology, Pediatric School Psychology, and Occupational Health Psychology. Both the Clinical Health Psychology and Pediatric School concentrations are accredited by the American Psychological Association. The Department also participates in the Multidisciplinary Studies degree program’s concentration in Neuroscience and offers a graduate certificate in Quantitative Methods for the Social and Behavioral Sciences. Psychology faculty routinely receive College- and University-level teaching awards and are recognized nationally and internationally for their scholarship and professional leadership. Faculty have recently received grants funded from Institute of Education Sciences; National Cancer Institute; National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; National Institute of Mental Health; National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases; and National Science Foundation. The Health Psychology program is a current and past recipient of a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Graduate Psychology Education training grant.
Moreover, the State of North Carolina is positioned to make significant investment in growing the primary care workforce at ECU, including supporting the Department’s Psychological Assessment and Specialty Services (PASS) Clinic, school psychologist training, and a new Behavioral health inpatient facility in the region, which all further complement the newly established joint operating agreement between ECU Health and ECU Brody School of Medicine.
Finally, faculty routinely collaborate with colleagues throughout the schools and colleges of ECU and have established connections with ECU’s School of Dental Medicine, College of Education, and various departments in Brody School of Medicine, including Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, and Cardiology.
Job Duties
The Department of Psychology invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor (Fixed Term) to serve beginning August 2024. This 9-month, non-tenure-track position involves a primary responsibility in teaching, clinical training, and other instructional responsibilities within our NASP-approved specialist in school psychology (MA/SSP) program and our APA-accredited pediatric school psychology concentration of the PhD program. The Department of Psychology operates a departmental training clinic (https://psychology.ecu.edu/pass/ ) that provides clinical services to students, faculty, and community residents. We also have longstanding relationships with area public school systems for research, clinical contracts, practica and internships. The responsibilities of this position include teaching graduate courses in school assessment, school intervention, and other related courses as well as undergraduate courses such as developmental psychology. Opportunities exist for clinical research collaborations within our Health Psychology program and with other departments, including those in ECU’s College of Education and Brody School of Medicine.
Minimum Education/Experience
A PhD or equivalent in school psychology or related discipline is required. Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions and degree programs must be NASP-approved or APA-accredited. Expertise with school assessment and intervention is required.
