Organizational Unit Overview
It is the mission of the Department of Pediatrics, East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine, to provide exemplary medical education/training of physicians in pediatric medicine at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, it is the mission of the department to provide model comprehensive primary and consultative sub-specialty care to children of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific knowledge through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for physicians in the region.
Job Duties
The Adult and Pediatric Health Care (APHC) practice is staffed by physicians trained in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. This individual will have opportunities to provide wellness care, chronic disease management care, and acute care to adults and children who seek medical care in the primary care medical home. This individual will also provide teaching and supervision of resident physicians in our Pediatrics and Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency programs as well as teaching of medical students during their clinical rotations. Additional opportunities for teaching are available if desired. Opportunities to participate in clinical research are available if desired, but is not mandatory. Clinical work on the inpatient medicine and/or pediatric services is optional and can be included in regular job duties if desired. Clinical work on the Internal Medicine inpatient service includes direct supervision and teaching of resident physicians in our Internal Medicine training program.
In addition to patient care responsibilities, this position will serve as a Residency Program Director for the Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics training program. The Program Director must administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating residents in each of the ACGME competency areas and in conformance with ECU Health GME policies and procedures. Selected duties may be delegated to faculty or training program administrators, however, the Program Director is responsible to the Designated Institutional Official, the Graduate Medical Education Committee, and to the ACGME’s Residency Review Committee for the timely and accurate completion of all tasks and their quality. Program director duties include, but are not limited to:
• Direct administration and operations of the training program;
• Provide structure to teaching and scholarly activity;
• Lead resident recruitment and selection;
• Ensure timely documentation of evaluation, promotion, and disciplinary actions for residents;
• Ensure appropriate supervision of residents;
• Oversee resident education in the context of patient care;
• Lead ongoing efforts in residency program Quality Improvement; and
• Be familiar with and comply with ACGME and Review Committee policies and procedures as outlined in the ACGME Manual of Policies and Procedures.

Minimum Education/Experience
MD or DO from an appropriately accredited institution, or completed foreign medical education accepted and recognized for ECFMG Certification. Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of North Carolina. Board Certified or eligible for board certification.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
Must be board certified, or eligible to sit for the certifying examination in General Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. Must also be board certified, or eligible to sit for the certifying examination in General Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Must have a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in North Carolina.
