Position Information
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is accepting resumes for a non-tenure track, twelve-month full-time position beginning in October of 2022. The position reports to the Chief Flight Instructor. This is a working manager position and may require duties at both the UMES home campus in Princess Anne, Maryland and the satellite location at the Prince Georges Community College in Largo, Maryland. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The UMES Aviation Science degree program prepares students with the technical and professional skills and disciplines necessary for the operation and management of aviation enterprises including piloting, business management and administration.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate work and schedule in accordance with the requirements of the University’s 141 Flight program.
  • Provide flight and ground (classroom) instruction and assist in the administration of the University’s 141 flight program in accordance with the responsibilities of an Assistant Chief Flight Instructor dictated in 14 CFR 141.
  • Maintenance of 141 records in compliance with FAA requirements. Student evaluation to include stage and end-of-course checks.
  • Flight Instructor supervision, flight checks, and re-current training.
  • Assist with the application to the FAA for approval of a satellite 141 location and oversight of operations at the satellite location.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Aeronautical Sciences or related field with experience in flight training and pilot ground instruction.
  • Previous leadership role with proven track record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Aviation or related field.
  • Aviation industry experience and college flight program experience.
  • Cessna 172 with the Garmin G1000, NAV III and GFC700 experience.
  • Flight instructors who meet the requirements of 14 CFR 141.36(d
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Thorough understanding of FAA 141 flight school procedures and practices. Experience in oversight of training operations and student tracking and evaluation.
  • Must be able to conduct pilot flight training and evaluation.
  • Ability to work multiple shifts as required by flight schedule, to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues and students.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Windows 10, Excel and Word.
  • Ability to pass drug screen and background checks.
Certifications/Registrations
  • Valid and current FAA Flight Instructor – Airplane Single Engine,
  • Instrument Airplane; Meets the requirements of 14 CFR 141.36(b)©: 500 hours PIC.
  • One year and 250 hours primary instruction given.
  • One year Instrument flight instructor experience and 125 flight hours.
  • Valid FAA Class II Medical required.
  • Documentation of flight time demonstrating eligibility under 141.36(b)©.
