JOB SUMMARY:

The College of Professional and Continuing Studies at Adelphi University invites qualified candidates to apply for a full time, non-tenure track faculty position in Emergency Management. The successful candidate will be responsible for the academic content and oversight of the Graduate Emergency Management program and the Undergraduate Emergency Services Administration program in the College of Professional and Continuing Studies (CPCS), in addition to other duties. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaboratively develops a strategy for the future academic direction of the program in accordance with CPCS’s mission to serve post-traditional learners
  • Participates in preparing academic proposals and managing them through the internal academic approval process, including leading presentations to the Faculty Senate and its subcommittees
  • Assists with recruiting and assigning teaching faculty
  • Assists with maintaining the quality of curriculum on regular basis
  • Assures maintenance of academic standards through review of individual student performance
  • Assists with the scheduling of classes according to established timeframes
  • Assists with processing academic petitions, e.g., grade changes, course substitutions, prior learning assessment agreements, readmission applications, etc.
  • Works closely with the assistant dean and academic advisor team to create an optimal learning experience for students and keep them on track to graduation
  • Serves as the program content liaison to All Campus
  • Serves as a member of the CPCS Academic Affairs Committee and Unit Peer Review Committee
  • Attends faculty meetings and program-related student events
  • Assists with program promotional activities, interviews with the press, and information requests from All Campus
  • Meets the teaching obligations of a Clinical Assistant Professor consistent with the provisions of the Adelphi CBA (Note: this position will receive 6 credits of workload release per academic year for administrative responsibilities)
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidates must have a doctorate in emergency management or a related discipline (ABDs with confirmed dissertation defense date may be considered)
  • Be a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) of the IAEM or possess similar professional credentials
  • At least 10 years’ experience working in emergency management
  • Expertise in designing and teaching college-level courses
  • Engagement in active clinical practice
  • Experience in developing community partnerships
  • On-line teaching experience and commitment to the distance learning environment
  • Strong administrative and communication skills
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an established network of relationships with local businesses/employers, government, and emergency management agencies (NYSEMO, FEMA, etc.)
  • The successful candidate will have experience in curriculum development and assessment of student learning, a commitment to student success, and the ability to effectively interact collaboratively with colleagues, staff, and students within a multicultural environment.   • REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

    This position reports to the Associate Dean of the College of Professional and Continuing Studies (CPCS) and works closely with the CPCS Dean, CPCS Academic Advisors, the Offices of Admissions and Public Relations, and external partners (i.e. All Campus).

  • SALARY INFORMATION

    In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 - $95,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.
