Job Description:

The nationally acclaimed Occupational Therapy Education program at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC), invites applications for a Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor (non-tenure track) position. The department is one of eight within the School of Health Professions(SHP), housed on a vibrant, urban midwestern campus. The Occupational Therapy Education program offers students an entry-level occupational therapy doctorate (OTD), a post-professional OTD, and a PhD in Therapeutic Science. Occupational therapy faculty at KUMC have faculty practice opportunities in outpatient clinics, school-based practice, and community-based care.  

Requirements:  Required qualifications include: (1) an earned doctorate in occupational therapy, rehabilitation science, psychology, education, public health, or other related field, completed by start date; (2) registered as an occupational therapist or eligible for the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy exam (3) eligible for OT licensure in the state of Kansas; (4) excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills; (5) ability to teach and mentor graduate students; and (6) alignment with core philosophy of the department. 

Preferred qualifications include: Our preferred candidate will have (1) experience teaching in an academic OT/OTA program; (2) experience with curriculum development and ACOTE accreditation; (3) interest in, or experience as, a capstone coordinator; (4) history of fieldwork education and/or mentorship of graduate students; (5) a history of professional practice in occupational therapy; (6) a history of scholarly activity (e.g. presenting, publishing); (7) experience with developing and implementing simulations; (8) experience with teaching technology and varied instructional design, and (9) interest/experience in:  diversity, equity, and inclusion; adult physical rehabilitation; neurological and chronic conditions; low vision; population health and health disparities; and/or policy and advocacy.

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Maintains continuing technical/scientific/clinical competency
  • Participates in continuing education and develops area of specialization/expertise
  • Assumes primary responsibility for course management in classroom and/or clinical courses
  • Demonstrates teaching excellence through evaluation of teaching
  • Develops innovative, effective teaching materials or approaches and disseminates
  • Serves as supervisor, committee member, and/or chair for student projects such as fieldwork, research projects, capstone projects, independent study projects, or dissertations
  • Engages in scholarly discovery, publication & presentation
  • Participates in intuitional service and professional service and develops as a leader
  • Collaborates/consults with local/regional providers
  • Pursues external funding for faculty practice and/or scholarly activities
  • Other duties as assigned
