Job Summary

The position reports to the Chair of the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences and works collaboratively with faculty within the department and across the UCSF Dental Center. The UCSF Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences is seeking a full-time MSP Staff Prosthodontist Dentist for predoctoral didactic, preclinical, and clinical learning in restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, and associated areas. Support of the department’s advanced education residency programs, including Prosthodontics and Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program (AEGD), may be expected consistent with candidate experience, credentials, and the department mission.

Reporting directly to Dr. Knoernschild, the MSP Staff Dentist/clinical administrator oversees that the patients, faculty, staff and students have the support they need while monitoring student academic progress.

The incumbent provides at least 5 sessions per week of clinical supervision to dental students in the Predoctoral Dental Clinic at Parnassus, with final schedule of clinical supervision determined by the Division Chair. The number of sessions in the Predoctoral Clinic and the allocation of administrative time is negotiated with the Division Chair and Department Chair and is directly related to the incumbent's other professional responsibilities and roles.

The Staff Dentist/clinical administrator also participates as a faculty provider up to 50% effort in the Faculty Group Practice at Parnassus.  In addition, the incumbent may serve as director or co-director of assigned courses; and they may granted administrative time should they serve in this role.

This position works closely with the Program/Course Directors, Clinic Managers and the administrative team that support the patient care operation at the UCSF Dental Center.

The staff dentist/clinic administrator also holds a concomitant academic without salary appointment.

The candidate must be a graduate of a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics and actively pursuing or has completed Board Certification, as qualified. Preference will be given to candidates with clinical experience and demonstrate expertise in advanced technologies, digital workflow, and dental implants to support ongoing expansion of the advanced technology curricula and implementation for patient care. The candidate will have an advanced degree in dental materials as applied to learning and clinical care.

The candidate should have prior experience in dental education and demonstrated ability to work productively in didactic and clinical educational environments. The candidate will have experience in the development and implementation of digital dentistry clinical curriculum and workflows for clinical learning and productivity. The preferred candidate may have a history of publications, as involvement in research/scholarly activity is encouraged.  Productivity in USCF Dental Center faculty practice is required. Candidates must have a DDS or DMD degree (or foreign equivalent) and be eligible for dental licensure or special permit in the State of California.

This position is a 1 year contract role from the date of hire with the possibility for renewal.

Required Qualifications

  • California DDS license  - The incumbent must have an active dental license or be eligible for special permit that allows them to practice dentistry.
  • DDS or DMD degree, and eligible for dental licensure in the State of California
  • Completion of accredited Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics
  • Actively pursuing or has completed Board Certification
  • Advanced degree in dental materials as applied to learning and clinical care.
  • Prior formal training in dental materials
  • Prior experience in the development and implementation of digital dentistry clinical curriculum and workflows for clinical learning and productivity
  • Experience teaching dental students
  • Strong clinic / center patient care management skills. Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technology. Broad knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services.
  • Demonstrated expertise in advanced technologies, digital workflow, and dental implants
  • Demonstrated strong clinical skills, knowledge and ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with students/staff/faculty.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic / center healthcare industry.
  • Proven ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and delegate work functions efficiently.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments.
  • Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
  • Strong leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management, and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and consistent achievement of objectives.
