Job Summary
The Senior Clinical Research Coordinator is a health professional having an advanced-level working knowledge of data management activities, excellent communication skills and a willingness to cooperate as a team member. The position requires the use of advanced-level knowledge and skills to independently coordinate, direct and follow through in the overall administration and outcome of one or more clinical studies. This position will provide leadership for a program-wide clinical research program, including overseeing lower-level clinical research coordinators and/or other support personnel.
The appointee will oversee and ensure smooth, accurate progress of several community-based participatory projects, focus groups, cross-sectional, cohort studies and clinical trials on dietary and education interventions on nutrition and health equity. The appointee will oversee studies from the planning and approval stages through study completion and post-study closure under general direction from the PI and other study staff. This position requires experience coordinating and administering clinical trials, familiarity with IRB requirements for study protocols, compliance with HIPAA guidelines and the observance of current guidelines for the proper conduct and reporting of outcomes from human studies.
The appointee assists with clinical study workflow and management, preparing and submitting documentation for review by the IRB; recruits and screens study subjects; coordinates their study participation and follow-up; coordinates community and nutrition studies in collaboration with community stakeholder organizations and human studies staff; assists in education of study subjects; administers tools to collect dietary data and utilizes nutrition related software; collects, submits and maintains study data and documents using tools such as Qualtrics or RedCap, Slack and excel spreadsheets; orders and inventories study supplies; develops and ensures compliance with study protocols; develops and oversees quality assurance and quality control of study protocols, sample and data collections; trains and oversee study personnel in study execution; and participates in planning, development and use of study protocols and budgeting for clinical research studies; effectively communicates with research team, study participants and the public. The appointee will also conduct simple statistical analysis, create figures, co-author manuscripts for peer review publication.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Additional Minimum License/Certification
  • IRB and HIPAA certification must be completed once hired

Minimum Education/Experience
  • Education - Bachelor's degree or higher in nutrition, public health, or other science-related field.

  • Experience in the coordination and administration of clinical studies and/or dietary intervention studies in humans or community health/nutrition studies, including participant recruitment and retention, use of various tools to collect and assess health history, nutritional intake and status, and data management.

  • Experience writing and submitting study protocols in accordance with IRB guidelines, registration of clinical studies (e.g., clinicaltrials.gov).

  • Strong oral and written communication skills for interacting with study participants and scientific study team, and scientific audiences including interpersonal/people skills to provide a supportive environment for diverse study participants and experience adapting oral and written communication styles as needed.

  • Strong organizational skills, including setting processes in place to ensure compliance with protocols and efficient workflow processes to meet study goals and timelines, and experience implementing data quality control measures.

  • Computer skills and experience with Excel for the effective management of research data.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of statistics and ability to execute basic calculations.

Preferred:
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Master's degree in nutrition, public health, physiology, or related field.

  • Experience conducting both qualitative and quantitative research through focus groups, cross-sectional analyses, randomized control trials.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision, following study protocol.

  • Skills in using multi-media (social media, Constant Contact/MailChimp and websites) for outreach and tracking user engagement.
