Job Summary

Department Purpose

Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) provides primary care, mental health care, acute care, laboratory, pharmacy, health education and counseling services to registered UC Davis students. SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and life-long wellness. SHCS has approximately 200 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, interns and post doc residents. SHCS is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), and IACS (International Association for Counseling Services). SHCS Counseling Services are staffed by an educationally diverse group of licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, Masters level therapists, and pre-and post-doctoral trainees, dedicated to assisting students and enriching the university community by providing individual counseling, group services, educational programs, psychological consultation, workshops, and other types of outreach services. Counseling services are offered at no cost to registered students.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Medical Director of Student Health and Counseling Services, the Nursing Manager is responsible for direct oversight of the nursing and nutrition teams. This position functions in a management position overseeing the primary care and acute care registered nurses, and dietitians providing oversight of compliance to department standards, policies, procedures, the quality improvement program, safety and environmental and infection control standards; performs clinical nursing care to UC Davis students.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  •  Work at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Employment contingent upon satisfactory completion of a physical exam by an Occupational Health physician to ascertain clearance from communicable disease and physical ability to perform the duties of this position.
  • Employment contingent upon participating in required preventative and medical monitoring programs which may include blood tests, immunizations, TB screening.
  • Position may, at times, require employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present.
  • Responsible for following health and safety guidelines/instructions.
  • Position requires signing a statement of understanding of Dependent Adult/Elder Abuse Reporting Requirement. Required to participate in Universal Precautions, bloodborne pathogen, airborne pathogen training and mandatory regulatory trainings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Minimum License/Certification:

  • Current California License as a Registered Nurse
  • Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) card and must be maintained in accordance with the American Heath Association standards

Minimum Education/Experience:           

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in clinical nursing.
  • Experience working in a union environment
  • Minimum of 2 years in a nursing supervisory or leadership position and ability to work independently to utilize skills for problem prevention in patient care process; conflict resolution, change facilitation and problem solving

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Knowledge of current principles, regulatory and professional standards of nursing art and practices and clinical skills to provide direct patient care including evaluation procedures and education
  • Cultural competence skills to communicate with and support a wide variety of people of diverse identities and backgrounds. Position requires highly effective communication and interpersonal skills. A customer service orientation.
  • Requires highly effective problem solving, and decision-making skills. Must have knowledge of HR-related policies and procedures.
  • Position must be able to work in a collaborative manner, and lead and influence others on matters of significance.
  • Must be computer literate and possess adequate knowledge of electronic/medical records systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:            

  • Leadership experience in a College Health Care setting preferred
  • Leadership and Clinical experience in outpatient/ambulatory clinical setting
  • Experience in compliance with legal and accreditation requirements.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Writing, spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills to produce departmental documents and communications.
