The Southern Climate Impacts Planning Program (SCIPP, southernclimate.org ) and the Oklahoma Climatological Survey (OCS) at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for the position of Climate Communications Assistant with the Southern Climate Impacts Planning Program. This is a part-time undergraduate position.

Responsibilities: The selected candidate will assist the SCIPP Program Manager and Team with the following:

  • Updating and creating website content
  • Social media content
  • Website news stories
  • Translating SCIPP team member peer-reviewed publications into plain language for stakeholder consumption
  • Preparation of the SCIPP Newsletter
  • Scheduling support for various workshops and meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

In this capacity the SCIPP Climate Communications Assistant will support the continued development and progress of SCIPP, one of 11 NOAA-funded Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments (RISA) teams in the United States. Requirements: Applicants should have completed, in good standing, freshman classes. Preference for candidates who have taken classes in communication, journalism, geographic sciences, or meteorology. Applicants should have an interest in communicating climate information to a variety of audiences. Applicants should also be motivated, have the ability to follow through on projects with minimal supervision, and be proficient with the Microsoft Office suite. Applicants should be willing to advance their skills in problem solving, communication (oral and written), and technical development.

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student for Spring 2022 at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.
