Description of Work Unit
CEMML is a research, education, and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at CSU. CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and other CSU departments to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary
A full-time Climate Change Analyst position is available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position is located at Colorado State University’s (CSU) main campus in Fort Collins, Colorado. This position will provide essential support on a growing interdisciplinary team of specialists as part of the Climate Adaptation Project.
The Climate Change Analyst will provide technical expertise and support for a variety of projects related to enhancing climate resiliency for natural resource managers on Department of Defense (DoD) installations. The primary focus for this position will be collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to develop regional climate change assessments. In this role, the Analyst will apply vulnerability and adaptation concepts used in the engineering, disaster research, and/or socio-ecological systems research fields to develop a comprehensive approach for assessing climate vulnerability of installations in alignment with the 2021 DoD Climate Adaptation Plan. They will employ climate models and tools to assess how changes to natural resources due to climate change may impact the mission at each installation. The individual will then summarize their findings and provide guidance for decision-makers as part of the assessment. This individual will also assist with identifying historical data sources, interpreting climate projections, and summarizing climate projections for teammates and clients. There will also be opportunities to collaborate with teammates to assist with developing scenario-based trainings for clients and climate literacy workshops at conferences. If needed, this individual may supervise others and review their work to ensure quality control.
This position requires experience with climate change science and climate adaptation. The individual should also be familiar with climate modeling, data analysis, and interpretation and also have excellent scientific synthesis, writing, and communication skills. In addition, the position requires experience with data manipulation and visualization in R and strong abilities in ArcGIS and the Microsoft Office Suite.
There is potential for this position to be fully remote.

Required Job Qualifications
• M.S. in Natural Resources, Ecology, Wildlife Biology, or a different natural resources-related field OR a B.S. in one of those fields plus at least three years of professional experience.
• Professional experience reviewing climate change models and assessments and developing adaptive strategies for mitigating the impacts of climate change.
• Knowledge of vulnerability and adaptation concepts utilized in the engineering, disaster research, and/or socio-ecological systems research fields.
• Experience preparing or reviewing natural resources or climate change planning documents.
• Excellent writing and scientific communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
• Proficiency with ESRI products (e.g. ArcMap, ArcPro).
• Proficiency with R
• The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Preferred Job Qualifications
• Knowledge of Department of Defense guidance related to climate change (e.g. Executive Order 14008, DoD Directive 4715.21) and/or the 2021 DoD Climate Adaptation Plan.
