Job Summary

The Clerk, Health Information Management (HIM) position will release confidential medical records to outside sources while complying with legal statutes set forth by the State of Indiana and Federal government. Document release and receipt of records in electronic health record (EHR). Assists internal and external customers by requesting medical records from outside sources. Review and prepare medical information/documents to be scanned and complete scan into EHR. Respond to inquiries from internal and external customers in regards to document release, HIPAA guidelines, and immunization requirements. Inquiries may include in person, electronic, and phone communication with students, family, staff, and external entities. Collect and verify student immunization dates to meet State law and Purdue requirements. Complete various chart audits as assigned. Input mandatory public health reports into state database. Serve as backup to the administrative assistant as needed. All other duties as assigned.

What We Are Looking For

 

Education and Experience:
Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years of general office experience 

 

Preferred:

  • One (1) year medical office experience 

 

Skills:
Required:                

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to handle confidential information discretely on a daily basis
  • Strong organization skills 
  • Must be able to provide excellent customer service, often with frequent interruptions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook 
  • Ability to interact with a diverse customer base using tact and diplomacy is essential
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate effectively a variety of policies and procedures to internal and external customers
  • Ability to independently research issues and draw sound conclusions
  • Ability to learn new and advancing technologies
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding, medical terminology, and anatomy
