Job Overview

The Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development (GUCCHD) is  dedicated to fostering a stronger society by promoting the wellbeing of ALL children, adults and families and creating more inclusive communities. We execute this mission through research, training, technical assistance, consultation, scholarship, and thought leadership. The Georgetown University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (GUCEDD) and the Georgetown University National Center for Cultural Competence (NCCC) are nationally and internationally recognized major centers within the GUCCHD. The GUCEDD and NCCC are closely linked centers with a shared director, faculty, and staff. The GUCEDD's mission focuses exclusively on developmental and other disabilities across the lifespan and embeds the role of cultural and linguistic competence, diversity, equity, and inclusion within the contexts of systems of supports and services for this population. The NCCC's mission is much broader, not limited to disability, and advances cultural and linguistic competence, diversity, equity, and inclusion in many domains and fields. Georgetown University is at the forefront of a growing focus on the intersection of disability and cultural and linguistic competence.

The CLC-DEI Professional Development Associate works at the intersection of these two centers to provide leadership in a broad range of professional development, training, and consultation activities focused on advancing diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and cultural and linguistic competence in an array of settings including disability organizations and systems, disability advocacy organizations, institutions of higher education, and other settings consistent with grants and contracts – both locally and nationally.

They work both independently and as a member of both centers. and assume a leading role in planning and conducting pre-service, in-service, professional development, and custom designed training activities for identified audiences. As well, they may be asked to contribute to juried and gray literature for any publications that arise from NCCC and GUCEDD projects and initiatives.

Work Interactions

Reporting programmatically to the Director of the GUCEDD and NCCC pending the project, activity, or initiative, the CLC-DEI Professional Development Associate works collaboratively with other members of the GUCEDD and NCCC interdisciplinary teams and may report to other team leads based on assignment. They also work with state, territorial, and tribal policy makers, public and private sector disability organizations, disability-specific advocacy organizations, university faculty and staff, and persons with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities and with their families in the conduct of the previously cited activities.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a human services or related field
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of best practices in adult learning and principles of cultural and linguistic competence, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and disability justice
  • Experience developing and delivering professional development and training to diverse audiences and constituency groups
  • Demonstrated capacity to ensure the engagement of persons involved in the provision of services and supports to persons with the lived experience of ID/DD and their families across diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, linguistic, and other identity groups

Preferred qualifications

  • Capacity to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team to conduct training, technical assistance, and consultation for diverse constituents and stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Understanding of 508-compliance
  • Persons who have lived experience of developmental or other disabilities and/or personal affiliation with disability - e.g. , family member, ally
