Classroom Assistant

Primary duties are to assist the classroom teacher and complete assigned responsibilities for instruction, planning, organization, activity implementation, evaluation, child care, and record maintenance. Responsibilities: Assist the teacher in planning daily activities. Assist the teacher in classroom instruction. Assist the teacher when evaluating students. Assist with group activities. Participate in development of curriculum and related materials used in the classroom. Understand each child’s levels and objectives as defined on their Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) and/or Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Participate in positive child/adult interactions with members of the staff and parents. Participate in the maintenance of a safe, clean, and stimulating classroom. Attend and participate in in-service training activities. Participate in applied research and curricula task force programs. Participate in classroom meetings and contribute relevant information. Assist with the care of classroom equipment and materials. Work in a cooperative manner with classroom teacher and assistants. Complete other related responsibilities assigned by supervisor. Comply with APPLE Accreditation and Quality Counts requirements.

Minimum of High School Education or equivalent. Children and Families required training hours and CPR and First Aid training must be completed within probationary period. One year of work related experience in an educational setting or with young children. Participate in workshops and seminars provided at the Debbie School such as medical in-services, first aid, CPR, positioning, and curriculum development. Complete 45 hours of in-service training annually to meet APPLE Accreditation and Quality Counts guidelines.

Patient safety is a top priority. As a result, during the Influenza ("the flu") season (September through April), the University of Miami School of Medicine requires all employees who provide ongoing services to patients, work in a location (all Hospitals and clinics) where patient care is provided, or work in patient care or clinical care areas, to have an annual influenza vaccination.
