Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The faculty of the Betsy Blackmon Dance Program at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a full time, professional-track position at the rank of instructor to begin August 16, 2024. The position is a 9-month appointment with a teaching load of 8 courses for the academic year. This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.
The instructor will teach all levels of classical ballet technique and pointe technique. Choreographing for departmental concerts and mentoring student choreography showcase performances may also be considered a course assignment. Secondary expertise in teaching contemporary, modern, dance history, jazz, tap, hip-hop, introduction to dance, and/or dance studies/theory is also desired. Instructor should display a collaborative spirit with a strong commitment to creating and maintaining healthy and supportive educational spaces.
Required Education and Experience
Candidates must have MFA in Dance or commensurate professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include one (1) or more years related experience teaching at a college/university level, professional dance experience, experience choreographing at the collegiate or professional level, and a strong record of creative and/or scholarly activities.
