• Experience managing budgets in excess of $500,000/year.  


Job Description:

Summary

The Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) at Iowa State University, is seeking qualified candidates for a Workforce Services Director.

The Workforce Services Director is responsible for leading CIRAS’ industrial outreach services related to workforce and actively collaborating as part of the CIRAS leadership team. This role is responsible for setting the strategic and operational strategy to ensure Iowa industry has access to necessary workforce resources through direct service delivery and partnerships with the public and private sector.

The Workforce Services Director will play a key role in helping Iowa businesses develop and deploy strategies to solve their workforce needs. The ideal candidate for this role should have a strong background in strategic workforce development and leadership from the manufacturing, construction, human resources, or public sector perspective.

The position requires demonstrated excellence across a broad set of strategic and operational experiences engaging people in the business sector. Critical skills include relationship building, business and manufacturing acumen, excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, exceptional critical thinking, analytic and problem-solving skills, ability to deal with ambiguity, strong time management skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. A passion for cross-functional solutions and an orientation towards the future are necessary for success. All staff members are expected to maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethical behavior.

This position can be located anywhere in Iowa, with regular travel to Ames and other locations across the state. This is a fixed term position, with expectation for renewal based on availability of funding. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.


Example of Duties
• Develops, implements, and leads CIRAS workforce programs and services that impact Iowa industry.

• Participates in CIRAS's development and deployment of strategy.

• Collaborates and assists companies in identification of return on investment/economic impact of projects. Prepares, presents and negotiates client proposals.

• Leads, directs and oversees employees delivering services involving employee attraction and retention, human resources, and student engagement.

• Works to establish, organize, and facilitate new and existing networks to bring value to clients.

• Identifies and implements innovative ways to address multi-disciplinary, strategic, managerial, operational, and technical problems.

• Leads complex activities to develop relationships in the state ecosystem to improve workforce services for CIRAS.
• Models exemplary program evaluation and reporting of outcomes.
• Shares best practices and lessons learned through Extension scholarship.
• Provides leadership in professional associations.

• Expert-level position possessing advanced professional and/or technical skills working under limited or no supervision
• Applies high-level professional knowledge and expertise to focus on ISU’s mission and meeting division, department or work unit goals
• Solves complex issues using highly-developed problem resolution skills
• Regularly provides recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices
• Utilizes high-level professional knowledge and expertise to provide guidance, recommendations, and set standards related to strategy, policy, and mission
• Leads projects of moderate to high scope and complexity with broad impact
• May provide supervision to other department staff (i.e., leads a small work team)
