The NYU Center on International Cooperation (CIC) seeks a dynamic and innovative Executive Director to drive and shape the Center's work and manage its overall activities. The Executive Director should have leadership experience working in or closely associated to the multilateral system, and , and extensive knowledge of the evidence for crisis and conflict prevention.  The Executive Director will set strategy, be responsible for delivery and institutional sustainability, and work with a senior management team to lead research,  program development and formulation of policy recommendations, fundraising and overall program management.

The Center on International Cooperation (CIC) was established in 1996 and is a nonprofit research center housed at New York University. For more than two decades, NYU CIC has been a leader in applied policy that links politics, security, justice, development, and humanitarian issues.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $220,000.00 to $290,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.  

Responsibilities

  • Overall leadership and direction of the Center, maintenance of its position as a leading research and policy center on international relations, and articulation of a Center-wide strategy, producing policy-relevant research to strengthen international cooperation, including with the United Nations, the World Bank and other international organizations, on the intersection between political, security and development issues.
  • Leading a cutting-edge research agenda on international cooperation and multilateralism, publishing high quality, relevant research and policy formulation.
  • Maintenance and development of a network of high-end relationships in the international relations and international development sphere, especially with the senior leadership of the United Nations, regional organizations, and the diplomatic community, to ensure relevance and take-up of CIC's research and policy recommendations.
  • Management of all senior staff and oversight of all managerial aspects of the Center's work.
  • Represent CIC at ministerial level and at other high-level meetings and settings.
  • Fundraising for the Center as a whole, guidance to Program Directors in their fundraising responsibilities, and oversight of all aspects of the Center's financial performance.
  • Maintain and deepen CIC's relations with relevant NYU departments.
  • Maintenance and development of CIC's research and scholarship profile and performance.

Required Education

  • Postgraduate qualification related to international relations, international development, international economic policy (note Phd NOT required).

 

 

 

Required Experience

  • 20 years' experience working on research and action to strengthen multilateralism, prevent crises and conflicts and promote peace, justice and inclusion.  
  • Experience in translating research into policy and program engagement.
  • Extensive management experience, planning for results and managing donor relations.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Projects confidence and capability on the subject matter. Extensive knowledge of the evidence for multilateral reform, crisis and conflict prevention and the promotion of peace, justice and inclusion.
  • Ability to maintain an overview of a broad policy agenda related to CIC's mission at the UN, the IFIs, regional organizations, member states and civil society and private sector partners.  Associated networking skills to manage a positive relationship with member states, international organizations, civil society, and donors.
  • Strategic skills to direct and develop a program and the ability to follow through by planning, monitoring, adapting, and ensuring results and impact.
  • Experience in fundraising and grant management, identifying opportunities; budget and fiduciary management and delivery tracking.
  • Proven ability to build institutions and teams and develop good institutional performance.
  • Networking and representational skills at a senior level.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills, spanning research products, policy recommendations and donor proposals and reporting.

 

 

 

Preferred Experience

  • Leadership and management experience within the multilateral system.
  • Leadership with a think tank or NGO of similar size and scope.

 

 

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Fluency in additional languages, with a preference for UN languages.
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
