The University of Miami is currently seeking a Chief Radiologic Technologist to work at Lennar Foundation Medical Center in Miami. The incumbent oversees radiologic services, maintains technical aspects of radiologic safety, and evaluates the accuracy and quality of x-rays. The Chief Radiologic Technologist schedules work assignments and coordinates requests for radiologic services. Moreover he/she recommends new equipment and equipment modifications within the department, and performs duties of a radiologic technologist.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                          

  • Plans, assigns, supervises, and reviews work of staff involved in the delivery of radiology, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and x-ray services.

  • Supervises and performs diagnostic imaging studies under the direction of a radiologist.

  • Coordinates activities with departmental staff to assure maximum effect, minimize duplication, and enhance better utilization of resources.

  • Prepares automatic inject with proper contrast for the procedure, adjusting all settings and parameters according to procedure requirements and radiologist preference.

  • Assists in the development of in-service training for divisional staff and students.

  • Establishes priorities for research development and monitors progress.

  • Assists in compilation of statistical data for departmental evaluation purposes.

  • Assists in the development of administrative and operational policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Monitors staff performance to ensure the highest level of care with the least amount of radiation exposure is being administered to patients.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. 

  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                   

Education:

Associate degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Certification in relevant specialty or field

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Department Specific Functions

Case Preparation and Implementation:

1.    Demonstrates ability to implement principles of aseptic technique in a variety of circumstances and in accordance with established Aseptic Technique policy and procedure.
2.    Prepares sterile areas in an organized, timely and efficient manner.
3.    Maintains appropriate, professional interpersonal relationships as observed by supervisory personnel.
4.    The technician must demonstrate knowledge of the principle of growth and development of the life span and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient’s age-specific needs.
5.    Performs initial and all subsequent sponge, needle/sharps, and instrument counts according to established policy and procedure.
6.    Anticipates needs of physicians as evidenced by advance knowledge and preparation of pertinent instrumentation and/or supplies.
7.    Exhibits quick, efficient, and purposeful manual in the preparation and passing of sterile instruments and/or supplies.
8.    Cares for and identifies all specimens according to established policy and procedure.
9.    Accurately identifies and labels all medications used on the sterile field as evidenced by Adherence to established policy and procedure.  
10.    At the completion of the procedure, demonstrate knowledge of accountability for and decontamination of soiled instruments as evidence by adherence to established protocol.
11.    Assists, as necessary, with activities related to the cleaning of procedure rooms and ancillary areas according to established Sanitation Policy and Procedure.
12.    Participates in hospital risk management program by reporting all unusual occurrences according to policy.
13.    Demonstrates safe and correct restraint procedures in accordance with hospital policy.
14.    Attends   departmental   and / or unit-based meetings or acknowledges review of note/ minutes on a weekly basis.
15.    Adheres to established policy/procedure on Sanitation, Infection Control and Standard Precautions in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
16.    Initiates and/or assists with daily restocking and maintenance of assigned procedure rooms in a timely and efficient manner.
17.    Receptive to constructive criticism and responds in a positive manner as observed by supervisory personnel.
18.    Demonstrates knowledge of & observes decontamination principles as evidenced by adherence to established protocol.
19.    Meets expectation of department calls & overtime responsibilities.
20.    Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
21.    Comply with the employee Code of Ethics and Standards of Behavior.
22.    Attend mandatory educational programs and annual in-services.
23.    Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

7.    Acts as preceptors for special procedure technologists & other ancillary personnel as assigned.
8.    Serves as active member of the department or ancillary personnel and assigned hospital committee.
