Job Summary:
The Chief Scientist is a leader in developing and executing strategic growth initiatives such as graphene-containing products, clean energy technology demonstrations, and sustainable plastics and materials.  The successful candidate will gain and execute MPI projects, work alongside project managers, and will be a scientific resource in aims to grow MPI’s project base and foster technically oriented business growth in Mississippi.  This position requires excellent internal and external communication abilities, customer service orientation, problem-solving, a broad and deep understanding of scientific methodologies, strong project management skills, and the ability to quickly get up to speed in new technologies.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advance MPI’s strategic growth initiatives and projects.
  • Externally represent and contribute at conferences, client sites, and community events.
  • Provide project and technical guidance and work collaboratively with project managers.
  • Gain and execute MPI projects independently and/or collaboratively.
  • Assist in quality and ISO activities, and performs other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications  
    Ph.D. in a scientific discipline from an accredited college or university. Proven track record of at least 8 years of experience in scientific program management or related roles within chemical, biological, or polymer industries. Startup and/or entrepreneur experience. Work experience in a chemical corporation. Current motor vehicle Driver’s License.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

    • Strong understanding of scientific and commercial methodologies and data analysis.
    • Adept at product development.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
    • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and motivate internal and external teams and clients.
    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities at one time.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite type products.
    • Ability to travel and make overnight stays.

    Preferred Qualifications:
     
    Demonstrated successful grant writing experience. Published articles in research and trade journals. Experience with federal and/or state government organizations. Economic development experience. Experience with military organizations and projects. Experience with medical and/or biological product development.
