The Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP) of the NCI is seeking a candidate with a degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics for the position of Branch Chief, Pharmaceutical Resources Branch (PRB).

The candidate will direct the activities of the PRB (https://ncifrederick.cancer.gov/research/prb/ ), and will collaborate with investigators of the NCIDTP (https://dtp.cancer.gov/ ). The candidate will manage and coordinate all functional requirements for the branch, including comprehensive pharmaceutical services to supply the DCTD with high quality chemical substances and formulated products through a chemical preparation laboratory and contracted services. The scope of activities overseen by the branch includes large-scale chemical preparation, chemical pilot plant production under Good Manufacturing Practices, analytical services, product research and development of dosage forms, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and shelf-life assessment of the finished dosage forms. In addition, the Branch has the responsibility for storage and distribution of clinical products. The PRB is staffed by chemists who are expert in the large-scale synthesis, formulation, manufacturing, and analytic evaluation of pharmaceutical products for use in humans and who report to the Chief. The candidate will direct contract research in dosage form design and development of effective delivery systems for experimental cancer clinical manufacturing. The agents to be developed and manufactured in this program are small molecule and natural products. The Chief manages and coordinates a system of contracts to synthesize and bring to initial clinical trials experimental cancer therapies, in collaboration with intramural and extramural investigators.
