This position will report directly to the Director of Athletics.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will oversee the daily administrative operations of sport programs, sports performance, athletic training, medical services, student-athlete wellness, and strategic initiatives.
Along with Director of Athletics, ICA Executive Staff, and Senior Leadership, the COO will create a vision and direction that will deliver and drive results by collaborating cross functionally to meet the department’s goals and objectives; and to help shape a positive public image for ICA, its’ programs, services, staff, and student-athletes. Oversee cross-department projects, initiatives and functions as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Provide oversight of administrative operations for sports programs. Assess and evaluate operations and personnel performance in the sports programs. Work closely with coaches and sport administrators on goals and plans to create a championship program in and out of competition. Monitor financial and budgetary activities, authorize all proposed expenditures for sports assigned.

Direct, supervise and evaluate head coaches, including strength and conditioning coaches for the sport programs for which the COO is the direct sport administrator. Supervise and support the head coaches in their evaluation of assistant coaches for these programs. Responsible for recruiting, hiring, evaluations, salary recommendations, dismissal of personnel and disciplinary action if necessary. Orient new coaches to department policy and procedures. Work with individual coaches to solve problems and resolve issues. Serve as the administration’s liaison for student-athletes.

Direct, supervise and evaluate ICA programs that provide medical and wellness services for student-athletes, including training room staff, dietitians, and student wellness support personnel.  Provide collaborative oversight of all health services with the Head Team Physician and other team physicians through administration of the Memorandum of Understanding between ICA and UW Medical Center. Develop and implement policies and procedures related to the physical and mental health/welfare of all who participate in sport programs.

Support initiatives focused on diversity, equity and inclusion within the department and work closely with the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration on human resources matters as needed. Represent ICA at University, Community and Pac-12 meetings/engagements. Engage with media, donors and season ticket holders. Perform related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Pac-12 Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
