We seek a dynamic and experienced psychiatrist to assume the role of Chief of Psychiatry within our esteemed medical school. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, academic guidance, and clinical expertise to advance the Psychiatry Division's education, research, and patient care mission. The Chief of Psychiatry will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of psychiatric education and practice within our Institution. This unique position requires a highly skilled and compassionate physician equally adept at clinical practice and administrative leadership. The primary work site for this position is at Broward Health North.

The Chief of Psychiatry –Associate/Full Professor will have the following specific responsibilities:

  • Clinical Leadership: Provide strategic vision and leadership for the Psychiatry Division, ensuring it aligns with the mission and goals of the Institution. This includes developing and implementing department goals and objectives, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and monitor quality assurance programs to maintain high standards of patient care. Conduct regular reviews of clinical processes to identify areas for improvement.
  • Clinical Protocols and Guidelines: Develop and implement clinical protocols and guidelines for the Psychiatry Division. Ensure adherence to evidence-based practices and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise psychiatrists and support staff. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment. Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Budget Oversight: Collaborate with the Chair of the Neurosciences Department to develop and manage the Psychiatry division budget. Monitor and control expenses to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Research Advancement: Encourage and support faculty in conducting cutting-edge research in psychiatric sciences. Facilitate collaboration and interdisciplinary research initiatives within the department and other relevant disciplines. Actively pursue external funding opportunities to enhance the department's research portfolio.
  • Faculty Development and Mentorship: Support faculty development activities, including facilitating educational workshops, promoting scholarly work, and assisting in the professional growth of faculty members.
  • Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate with other medical directors, department chairs, and hospital leadership to promote interdisciplinary collaboration. Collaborate with medical staff to address clinical issues and improve patient outcomes.
  • Clinical Oversight: Ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric care in clinical settings associated with the medical school. Collaborate with hospital partners to enhance clinical services and patient outcomes. Stay abreast of advancements in psychiatric treatments and technologies to inform clinical practices.
  • Continuity of Care: Establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, ensuring continuity of care throughout their healthcare journey. Coordinate with other healthcare professionals, specialists, and ancillary staff to provide comprehensive and coordinated patient management.
  • Teaching and Supervision: Serve as a clinical educator and mentor to medical students, residents, and fellows. Provide instruction and supervision during clinical rotations, participate in case discussions, and facilitate educational activities to enhance trainees' learning experience.
  • Community Engagement: Establish strong partnerships with community organizations, mental health agencies, and relevant stakeholders. Advocate for mental health awareness and destigmatization within the broader community.

Minimum Qualifications:

• M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of associate professor or higher required.
• A Florida medical license or eligibility for Florida licensure and Board eligibility/certification in Psychiatry is preferred.
• Completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency program.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in leadership or managerial role within a healthcare setting.
• Substantial experience in academic psychiatry, with a proven record of leadership and administration.
• Experience as a faculty member in an academic setting, focusing on medical education.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary teams and community organizations.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and clinical practice.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with residents, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
• Organizational and managerial abilities to oversee program logistics and administrative tasks.
• Substantial ethical and professional conduct.
