Chief of Police (Internal Candidates Only)

Responsibilities:  
Plans, organizes, oversees, and coordinates all operations of the University Police Department (UPD), including campus patrol operations, traffic/parking management, facility and event security, crime investigation within UPD jurisdiction and related activities. Manages campus emergency notification systems. Serves as Incident Commander for critical incidents which affect safety or security of the campus. Oversees a variety of assigned internal and external reports for the UPD, assuring accuracy, compliance and timeliness. Coordinates UPD services with other University departments and outside agencies. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and university policies. Performs administrative duties to include budget development and oversight, department policy development, analysis of crime/call data, resource and equipment management (including but not limited to UPD auto fleet, evidence room and armory), hiring and performance management of department staff, and support for university accreditation activities.
Maintains all required law enforcement credentials, qualifications, and certifications.

Performs the full range of duties as police officer when needed. Work schedule may include varied hours and shifts (day, evening, night, and weekend shifts may apply at the onset of employment and may be changed during the course of employment). Work schedule also includes after-hours response which requires prompt telephone response and, if needed, a “no more than 30-minute” response time from the time of call to arrival on campus.
