The University of California, Riverside (UCR) School of Medicine invites applications for the position of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of UC Riverside Health. The successful candidate will also receive a concurrent academic appointment in an appropriate department in the School of Medicine, and participate in teaching, research, and scholarly activities. A competitive applicant must qualify for an academic appointment in the Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical series at the associate or full professor ranks.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor/Dean of the School of Medicine and to the Chief Executive Officer of UCR Health, the CMO of UCR Health sets the tone for the delivery of patient and family-centric, compassionate care across the clinical enterprise of the UC Riverside School of Medicine. The CMO will work collaboratively with the clinical Department Chairs and UCR Health team to develop a high quality, integrated, multispecialty clinical practice that serves the missions of the School of Medicine. The CMO provides leadership to ensure that UCR Health clinical services and programs are "best in class" in terms of clinical quality, patient outcomes, patient safety and patient satisfaction, and will monitor and ensure that professional services provided by UCR School of Medicine at affiliate sites align with UCR SOM's quality. The CMO will leverage technology, including the EHR system, digital health tools, virtual care capability, and advanced analytics in increasing access, and enhancing the care model. The CMO will incorporate physician and healthcare workforce wellness in advancing ambulatory care. Specifically, the CMO will provide guidance and is responsible for clinical oversight to the following functional areas: 1) quality, patient safety and risk management; 2) physician clinical performance and professionalism expectations and oversight; 3) clinical faculty onboarding and training, including credentialing; 4) value-based care and pay for performance programs; 5) population health and care management.

UCR Health is the clinical enterprise of the UC Riverside School of Medicine (UCR SOM), with a specific mission to support the education and training of students and residents, and to provide primary care and specialty services to the residents of inland Southern California. Established in 2016, UCR Health provides patient care at five ambulatory clinic locations in Riverside, La Quinta and Irvine, with over 42,000 patient visits in FY22, as well as inpatient services through professional service agreements at many hospitals and health care facilities in the inland Southern California region. UCR Health is the medical group for UCR SOM clinical faculty and provides centralized management and oversight of clinic operations and staffing, payor and provider contracting, marketing, billing, coding and revenue cycle, IT, including EHR and information systems, quality, risk management, patient satisfaction and all other support services required for clinical practice.

Founded in 2013, the School of Medicine at UCR is the sixth University of California Medical School. The successful candidate must possess an M.D. or equivalent degree and possess Board Certification in a clinical specialty. They will be required to be a regular member of the UCR Health medical group. The candidate must retain university-quality skills and clinical judgement. A minimum of five years experience in the role as Director of Quality or as a CMO in an ambulatory setting, is preferred. The total time available for clinical duties will be negotiated with the Department Chair and the Dean, however there will be 50-75% FTE set aside for the CMO role. The successful candidate will also be expected to show a record of research or scholarly activities appropriate for an academic appointment in the Associate Professor or Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical series. Finally, the candidate must demonstrate appropriate administrative experience and a proven record of academic and administrative leadership qualities.
