Position Summary
The Department of Surgery at The University of North Carolina is currently seeking qualified applicants for the role of Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery. The Division of Pediatric Surgery is among 9 clinical Divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes 4 faculty members that provide a broad array of clinical services to provide the highest quality care for injured and critically ill pediatric patients. Candidates will be expected to have demonstrated excellence in all three traditional academic missions: clinical practice, education, and research, as evidenced by experience, outcomes, and references. The candidate must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment, promote teamwork and learning, and lead by example.
Faculty members within the Division of Pediatric Surgery must possess a desire to commit to all three missions of the department and school of medicine, including the clinical, education, and research missions. 
Regarding the education mission, faculty members are expected to regularly participate in the education of medical students and residents. Additionally, Pediatric Surgery faculty participate in outreach to our rural referring hospitals. Regarding the research mission, a commitment to any one of a broad array of research interests is desirable, including but not limited to clinical outcomes, health services, basic science, translational, ethics, education, or global surgery initiatives. Regarding the clinical mission, faculty members must be committed to delivering high quality clinical care to the patients of UNC
The incoming Chief will be responsible for partnering with the Chair of Surgery to promote a collegial work environment that enhances clinical growth and academic development while advancing research activities consistent with the growth of clinical programs. The Chief will also work closely with the Chair of Pediatrics, and other surgical and medical departments in the UNC Children’s Hospital. The selected candidate will be a strategic leader who will promote a strong culture of institutional stewardship throughout UNC Health systems, including a strong commitment to effective business operations. The Department of Surgery offers potential candidates a uniquely supportive practice environment with an emphasis on quality patient care, research, teaching, individual career development, and collaboration among faculty members.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
The applicant must be Board Certified in General and Pediatric Surgery.

The ideal candidate will be team-oriented and have the ability to interact well with colleagues within the Division and the Department of Surgery.
