Chief, Division of Emergency General Surgery

 

The Program in Trauma, University of Maryland School of Medicine and the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center of the University of Maryland Medical Center is currently recruiting for a Chief of the Division of Emergency General Surgery.  The Program in Trauma and Shock Trauma serve as the home for Acute Care Surgery at the University of Maryland and has a demonstrated strong commitment to clinical excellence, innovative research, and world class education.  We are seeking a Board-certified general surgeon at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor who has completed advanced training in Acute Care Surgery and/or Surgical Critical Care or has equivalent training or experience. The successful candidate should have demonstrated leadership and outstanding clinical skills

Candidates must be board certified in surgery and critical care by the ABS, have experience with complex Emergency General Surgery as well as expertise in quality management initiatives.  Working closely with the other Shock Trauma clinical leads, candidates should have an interest in the practice and the advancement of Acute Care Surgery (encompassing Trauma, Emergency General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care).  Candidates should be eligible for the position as Program Director of the University of Maryland AAST-verified Acute Care Surgery Fellowship. This means you must be a member of the AAST. In order to lead, grow and develop highly skilled faculty, fellows and support staff, candidates should have excellent managerial and interpersonal skills.  They must have a strong commitment to the mentorship of faculty, development of research, provision of high quality and high value care, with an eye towards patient satisfaction.  An established research focus is highly desirable. The Chief of EGS is able to rotate in the ICU’s and the Trauma Service.

The position includes an academic appointment with the University of Maryland School of Medicine, the rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and training.  Compensation is competitive and full-time positions include an extensive benefit plan. Position is available immediately.
