Job Summary:
The Chemistry Laboratory and Instrumentation Manager will be responsible for all non-faculty related aspects of laboratory activities in Chemistry. Responsibilities include managing the preparation and organization of laboratory experiments for chemistry courses, as well as overseeing the maintenance and operation of instrumentation in teaching and research labs within the department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics at FDU’s Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck, NJ.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff to ensure the efficient and effective operation of chemistry labs. The Chemistry Lab Manager will report to the Chair of the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics.
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field required, Master’s degree preferred.
2. A minimum of 2-3 years of experience required in a laboratory setting, preferably in an academic environment.
3. Experience required with laboratory equipment and instrumentation, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
4. Experience required with typical analytical instrumentation used in chemistry, such as GC-MS, HPLC, NMR, FTIR and UV/Vis.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory safety protocols (OSHA, EPA, DOT and others), including hazardous waste disposal and emergency response procedures.
6. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
7. Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with a diverse faculty, staff, visitors, and student population with sensitivity and decorum.
8. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods of time, and reach with arms and hands.
9. Must be available to work non-standard hours as required, including evenings and occasional weekends.
10. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
