Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of six health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Social Work, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The School teaches approximately 600 PharmD students and 145 graduate students. Position Summary
Laboratory for Molecular Modeling at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow in cheminformatics/computational toxicology to work on the modeling of toxicity of medical device leachables and extractables. This position entails the responsibility for data collection, curation, integration, and database development and maintenance. The postdoc will also initiate implementation of machine learning models, developed for the properties of interest. Basic programming skills and experience with the software used for the proposed activities are expected. The position requires strong collaboration between researchers at MML and industrial partners.
The successful candidates will (1) participate in development and maintaining of comprehensive database of skin sensitization, irritation, and cytotoxicity; (2) develop, interpret, and disseminate predictive machine learning models for the properties of interest.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD in Cheminformatics, Organic Chemistry, or related field with proven expertise in the development and application of computational tools and methods for chemical and biological data mining.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Significant expertise in cheminformatics.
- Working knowledge of multivariate statistical and data mining techniques.
- Expertise in computer-assisted drug or computational toxicology .
- Practical knowledge of machine learning methods and applications to chemical and biological databases at scale required.
- Knowledge of data analytics and integration platforms like KNIME.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
- Evidence of potential for strong administrative and budget-management skills.
- Ability to independently design and execute experiments.
- Evidence of potential to function as a team leader.
- Evidence of potential to develop an independent research program and to contribute to research proposal writing.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
-At least 10 years after PhD in cheminformatics, working knowledge of multivariate statistical and data mining techniques, and expertise in computer-assisted drug or computational toxicology .
