Description of Work Unit
The Chemical and Biological Engineering program at CSU has had a record of very high-quality education and research since its inception in 1977. There are currently 400 undergraduate and 25 full time graduate students in the program, 14 tenure-track faculty, and two full time non-tenure track faculty. All of the tenure-track faculty members hold at least one joint appointment in departments or schools inside and outside the college, and in that capacity, advise an additional 30 PhD students in chemistry, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, molecular, cellular, and integrative neuroscience, and materials science and engineering.
The Department has integrated both chemical and biological sciences into our undergraduate curriculum and offers one of the only ABET-accredited Chemical and Biological Engineering BS degrees in the country. Our faculty are engaged in exciting research work, with emphases on bioenergy, biochemical and biomedical engineering, experimental and computational systems biology, synthetic biology and metabolic engineering, bioanalytical devices and microfluidics, polymer science, and biomaterials. Position Summary
The individual in this position will report to the Department Head of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering (WSCOE) and support the educational mission of the CBE Department in providing high-quality instruction in its undergraduate curriculum . They will be appointed in Chemical and Biological Engineering and will provide intellectual leadership and excellence in teaching undergraduate courses in chemical and biological engineering. In addition, they will carry out academic advising duties for the department’s undergraduate students. The individual in this position will teach/co-teach a maximum of six academic courses per year and advise up to 30 undergraduate students.
The initial rank of the successful candidate will depend on the amount of demonstrated teaching experience. Selected individuals who have more than 6 years of experience will be eligible for Associate Professor; selected individuals who have more than 11 years of experience will be eligible for Full Professor.

Required Job Qualifications
  • PhD in chemical engineering or closely related field
  • Ability to teach most of the required undergraduate courses in the CBE curriculum.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate CBE courses
  • Previous experience and/or willingness to prepare online versions of select core CBE courses
  • Demonstrated engagement in mentoring and diversity, equity, and inclusion activities
  • Experience applying data science concepts to CBE systems analyses
  • Experience with process simulation or multiphysics software
  • Proven ability to articulate the role of sustainability and resiliency in the CBE curriculum
