Job Description:


Iowa Western Community College seeks a part-time assistant cheerleading coach who will provide a visible positive presence to promote school spirit at all home athletic events. This position will foster a connection with the squad, the athletic teams and their visiting families during the season. The assistant coach is responsible for assisting with tryouts, pre-season training, all games, practice and workouts, as well as assisting with events planned by the spirit coordinator and residence life. This is a part-time, 12-month staff position with evening and weekend hours required. This position reports to the Head Coach for the Iowa Western cheerleaders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree
  • Two or more years of proven work experience with a competitive cheer team
  • Must be able to demonstrate, teach, and critique the technical skills associate with collegiate cheer team activities
  • Certification through National Cheerleader Association as a cheerleading sponsor or coach required
  • AACCA safety certificate required or willing to obtain immediately
  • Must live locally to allow participation in community and college activities
  • Experience in higher education, particularly in the areas of cheerleading and/or student life
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills; experience advising student organizations or related skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of college student development and learning. Knowledge of current trends of cheerleading
  • Positive, enthusiastic, collaborative, flexible, and approachable attitude
  • Knowledge of UCA (Universal Cheer Association) cheerleading safety information
  • First Aid and CPR certificate required or willing to obtain immediately
  • Ability to pass a background check, have a current license and good driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree

Physical Demands:


This position will require assisting in spotting athletes safely and a lot of time on your feet coaching.
