Description

The University of Washington School of Medicine is seeking candidates for Chair of the Department of Genome Sciences . The Chair will guide the mission and vision of the department. The goal of the department is to address leading edge questions in biology and medicine by developing and applying genetic, genomic, proteomic, and computational approaches that take advantage of genomic information now available for humans, model organisms and a host of other species. The position is full-time and tenured with appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor commensurate with experience. The anticipated start date is October 1, 2023. This position has an annual service period of 12 months [July 1-June 30].

The Department of Genome Sciences is an integral part of a vigorous research community and has outstanding research and training programs, including participation in undergraduate and graduate programs. The department formed in 2001 from the union of two UW departments and integrated the strengths of both. Research within the department of Genome Sciences has the broad goal of development and application of genomics and proteomics methods for the interpretation of genomes. Faculty research falls within the general topic areas of model organism and human genomics, computational biology, and genomics and proteomics technology development. The University of Washington consistently ranks among the top 3 recipients of NIH funding, and UW Genome Sciences was ranked at the top of its field by Academic Analytics. The National Research Council has given UW Genome Sciences its highest ranking.

Salary: The base salary range for this position will be: $20,417 – $30,834 per month ($245,004 – $370,008 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Other Compensation: Other compensation associated with this position may include an administrative salary supplement for administrative service as chair. Appointees solely employed and paid directly by a non-UW entity are not UW employees and are not eligible for UW or Washington State employee benefits. 


Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Genome Sciences or a related biomedical discipline. An MD (or foreign equivalent) is also acceptable. Applicants must also have demonstrated academic leadership skills and an active internationally recognized research program in Genome Sciences.
