UCSF School of Dentistry seeks an outstanding leader to chair the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences, the school’s largest academic department. The department includes the divisions of Behavioral Sciences and Community Dental education, Biomaterials and Bioengineering, Clinical General Dentistry, Endodontics, Oral Epidemiology and Dental Public Health, Pre-clinical Simulation, and Prosthodontics. The department also includes postgraduate specialist programs in endodontics, prosthodontics, dental public health and advanced education in general dentistry.
This broad range of divisional units is grouped around themes of prevention, early assessment and minimally invasive treatment of caries, and primary and tertiary treatment of conditions that affect the integrity and function of the dentition, including the social and behavioral aspects of disease management. Strong departmental research programs in behavioral sciences, epidemiology, health disparities a, precision health, biomaterials/bioengineering, lasers and caries are related to the department’s clinical responsibilities, creating a programmatically unified department with a common mission.
The successful candidate will have exceptional administrative and organizational skills and a national reputation as a leader in academic dentistry. The individual chosen will be responsible for visionary leadership, management and stewardship of the department’s mission related to education, research and patient care services.
This is a full-time academic position. The successful candidate will hold the Leland A. and Gladys K. Barber Distinguished Professorship in Dentistry and will have a concurrent faculty appointment in the appropriate series and rank contingent on qualifications and/or interests.
Candidates must hold a DDS, DMD, DDS/PhD, DMD/PhD degree or equivalent and be qualified to be appointed at the associate professor or professor level at UCSF in the academic series most appropriate to their experience and qualifications. In addition, successful candidates must have at least five years of administrative and leadership experience in an academic setting, such as in a section, division or department.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2022-23/oct-2022-salary-scales/t5-summary.pdf . The minimum base salary range for this position is $133,300-$284,100. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan (https://ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/apm/apm-670.pdf ) which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
