Position Summary

The Teacher Education Department at the University of Southern Indiana, a public and Carnegie-engaged university in Evansville, Indiana, seeks applications for a 10-month position as department chair at the Associate Professor or Professor rank in Education. Appointment will begin August 2024.

Duties/Responsibilities 

We are looking for an energetic and dynamic leader that will provide the vision to guide the Department to higher levels of excellence. This person must have a broad, inclusive view that will promote our undergraduate and graduate programs in Teacher Education. The Chair is responsible for oversight of academic programs, faculty review, course scheduling, budget, support of faculty productivity, and professional development. The Chair is assisted by two graduate program directors and serves on the Dean’s Council, the Quality Assurance Team for Educator Preparation, and the University Teacher Education Council. This person will also play an important role in any structural and/or programmatic changes that occur in the Department and will be committed to supporting and facilitating the needs of faculty members in Teacher Education.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Education or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will be able to articulate a clear and compelling vision of the department’s future and quickly adapt to the ever-changing higher education landscape. The candidate must also exhibit a record of teaching, service, and scholarship that would result in the award of tenure at the University of Southern Indiana; P-12 teaching experience; expertise in building and maintaining collaborative relationships; and university teaching and leadership experience. Rank will be commensurate with experience.
