Capitol Technology University is a career-focused university located in Laurel, Maryland, between Baltimore and Washington, D.C. It is a non-profit private university that was started in 1927 by a Navy veteran to teach students how to build radios. Even though the University offers bachelor's, master’s, and doctoral programs, the University offers unique commitments to on-campus students that include a salary guarantee and a Chargers Assistance Program that helps students pay back their loans if they do not find full-time work within 90 days of graduation.


This position will provide leadership in administration, teaching, recruitment, and service related to the Computer Science program. The Department Chair will be responsible for managing the department budget, the quality and integrity of the programs, innovation, assessment, continuous quality improvement, accreditation, and promoting an on-campus undergraduate student experience. Individuals must thrive in a collaborative environment, embrace an experiential environment, support community engagement, and integrate cutting-edge content grounded in industry best practices and addresses students’ interests in the field of computer science. Capitol also invites industry professionals with an appropriate Doctorate and teaching experience to apply for this position. The candidate must be willing and interested in collaborating with government and industry partners to provide opportunities for our students.

Our Computer Science department consists of five undergraduate and one master’s degree. There are approximately 100 students enrolled, supported by one full-time faculty member augmented by numerous adjunct professors. The BS in Computer Science is ABET-accredited. The department requires a dynamic Chair with a vision for the future of computing which is committed to the program's growth. These future growth areas include data science, machine learning and AI, and Quantum computing. This is a full-time on-campus 12-month appointment on our beautiful 52-acre campus in Laurel, MD, on the Baltimore Washington parkway. 

  • PhD from an accredited institution of higher learning in Computer Science or a closely related discipline. 
  • Possess a successful record in education and professional service.
  • Demonstrate successful leadership in education and professional service.
  • Ability to recruit, develop, and retain outstanding faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work effectively with all stakeholders to develop the Department's vision and integrate it with the vision and plans of the Academic Department and University.
  • Willingness to promote the Department by engaging alumni and donors to enhance Departmental resources.
  • Must be committed to diversity among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all constituents including students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni.
  • Administrative and teaching experience as well as professional experience in a related field.
  • Must be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Industry experience is a plus and those working full-time in industry are strongly encouraged to apply.
