CHAIR and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Program Manager

Creighton University’s Health Science Campus in Phoenix is seeking a Program Manager to support the development and expansion of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) efforts and the CHAIR (CommonSpirit Healer, Advocate, Innovator, Researcher) Scholars Program which aims to expand the pipeline of underrepresented workforce in medicine.

 

This position will work closely with the EDI Division and Student Affairs to support Creighton’s Phoenix campus in becoming more inclusive through various initiatives and with Creighton University and CommonSpirit leadership to establish programming and support for students accepted into the CHAIRS program. The Program Manager will collaborate internally across Creighton, specifically with leadership in the Phoenix Health Sciences Campus to support the growth of a more diverse student body and workforce.

 

The Program Manager will be responsible for working with leadership in the School of Medicine and College of Nursing in developing and implementing the CHAIRS Scholars Program. Additionally, the Program Manager will engage in various strategic planning processes, including coordinating and facilitating multiple workgroups and developing pilot programs to support students. This position will serve as an EDI resource for the Creighton Phoenix campus, for both leadership and students.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Works with Creighton University and CommonSpirit healthcare system leadership to design and support the CHAIR Scholar program to enhance a culture of equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging for the University’s health science programs.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of CHAIR Scholars, students in the fields of medicine, physician assistant, and accelerated nursing programs at Creighton University’s Phoenix campus.
  • Works with University and healthcare officials responsible for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Institute for Population Health leadership, University Relations, as well as appropriate leaders in the Phoenix campus for College of Nursing and School of Medicine to establish the program and expand annually, including increasing the number of scholars.
  • Identify opportunities for research and learning projects that connects CHAIR scholars with faculty and healthcare leaders.
  • Identify mentors who help the CHAIR Scholars with adjustment within the University and hospital systems, from Creighton University’s School of Medicine GME programs, PA program, and CommonSpirit nursing staff.
  • Support scholars and identified mentors by meeting regularly and offering training opportunities (e.g., mentorship training, leadership training, sponsorship, and coaching).
  • Develops and supports new and ongoing efforts/programming to develop a more inclusive Creighton campus in Phoenix.
  • Serve as a liaison for campus groups and leaders (e.g., Culture and Belonging, Pathway Programs, Enrollment, Student Life, etc.) to provide support and information to students and prospective students.
  • Develop and execute cultural programming initiatives that connect students with faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Provide guidance and support for the development and implementation of a Health Science Campus Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategic Plan.
  • Work with the Division of EDI to provide training and resources for faculty, staff, and the campus community on cultural awareness and competency, bias, and building inclusive environments.
  • Serve as a resource, advisor, and mentor for underrepresented students by advising student affinity/interest groups with a diversity-based mission, attend student forums as an advocate for EDI issues, coordinate/facilitate small group mentoring session for students, and develop relationships with students.
  • Coordinates and provides administrative support to CHAIR Scholar Program and EDI Initiatives.
  • Organize review meetings, provide regular reports, and updates as needed for CHAIR Scholar Program and EDI programming.
  • Establish a CHAIR Scholar annual report that includes placement of all candidates as well as exit interview processes for all candidates.
  • Works with CommonSpirit human resources to operationalize and track loan forgiveness, ensuring requirements are met by CHAIR Scholars, in addition to a establishing a tracking system for CommonSpirit retention post-graduation.
  • Organize efforts to collect relevant student data and maintain records of activities, policies, and processes related to diversity initiatives.
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master’s degree with experience in healthcare education or experience in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or a Social Sciences or Humanities discipline preferred.
  • Prior healthcare experience in an academic medical center setting preferred.
  • 3-5 years of full-time professional experience in programming and outreach efforts related to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and/or wellness, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with providing administrative, grant, and strategic planning support and development preferred.
  • Must have experience working with a diverse student population or community.
