Primary Purpose:
To provide clinical and technical support to patients receiving care in the operating room. The major focus is on the scrub role, but may also include an assistant circulator role under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
The Certified Surgical Technologist II has 2 years of experience and will be able to take on more patient care related tasks and complicated cases. The Surgical Technologist II works under the direction of and supervision of a Lead Surgical Technologist, a Registered Nurse or Physician and in accordance with the legal scope of competency and within established standards of care, policies and procedures.  The Surgical Technologist II has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure safe, quality patient care during the operative procedure and serves as a preceptor.

Qualifications

 

Knowledge and Skills:
Education: High school diploma or GED minimum required. Associate's degree in surgical technology, preferred degree.

Years of Experience: One to two years equivalent experience, minimum required

Required Certifications: Must be Certified by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST), and maintain that certification.      
Required Skills and Knowledge: Computer literacy; demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
